Which band did Andy Warhol manage and produce in the 1960s?
Answer
The Velvet Underground
Answer
The Velvet Underground
Andy Warhol managed and produced The Velvet Underground in the 1960s.
Warhol became the band’s manager in 1965 and incorporated it into his multimedia event, the Exploding Plastic Inevitable. He also served as producer of the group’s debut studio album, The Velvet Underground & Nico, released in 1967.
The record paired the band’s experimental rock with Nico’s vocals on several songs. Warhol’s role included providing artistic direction and helping connect the group to his Factory world, although musician Tom Wilson handled much of the technical recording work.
Warhol is sometimes described as having written the album’s music, but he did not. His best-known direct contribution to the record’s package was the banana cover image, while the band supplied the songs and performances.
