Which Aztec god's name is often translated as 'Smoking Mirror'?

The story behind the answer

Tezcatlipoca is the Aztec god whose name is often translated as “Smoking Mirror.” The Nahuatl name refers to an obsidian mirror, whose dark, polished surface could appear smoky and was associated with prophecy, divination, and supernatural sight.

Tezcatlipoca was a major deity of darkness, the night sky, conflict, rulership, and the invisible forces shaping human fate. He was also associated with the north and with the jaguar. In many artistic representations, an obsidian mirror appears on his chest, at the back of his head, or in place of one foot.

A common mix-up is Quetzalcoatl, Tezcatlipoca’s frequent mythological rival. Quetzalcoatl means “Feathered Serpent,” while Xipe Totec was known as “Our Lord the Flayed One.” Tezcatlipoca’s many roles explain why he can appear as both a feared force and a powerful patron of kings.
