Which avenue hosts France’s annual Bastille Day military parade in Paris?

The story behind the answer

The Champs-Élysées hosts France’s annual Bastille Day military parade in Paris.

The parade takes place on 14 July, France’s national day. It usually proceeds along the Champs-Élysées from the Arc de Triomphe toward the Place de la Concorde, where the president and other officials review the participants. The route connects some of Paris’s most recognizable monuments and gives the event its distinctive setting.

The modern parade tradition developed from earlier revolutionary and republican military celebrations. It became especially associated with the national day after the Third Republic established 14 July as France’s official national holiday in 1880.

The parade includes troops from the French Army, Navy, Air and Space Force, Gendarmerie, and other services. Aircraft fly overhead, while international units are sometimes invited. The avenue is sometimes misspelled as “Champs Elysees,” but its French name includes the accent in Élysées.
