Honda produces the Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid.
The Clarity nameplate began with Honda fuel-cell vehicles, including the FCX Clarity, but Honda expanded it in the 2010s into a family of alternative-powertrain cars. The Clarity Plug-in Hybrid joined the Clarity Electric and Clarity Fuel Cell as part of that broader lineup.
Honda announced the plug-in version in 2016, and it launched in the United States on December 1, 2017. It combined a gasoline engine with an electric motor and a comparatively large battery, allowing drivers to complete shorter trips using electricity before the gasoline system became more important.
The Clarity Plug-in Hybrid was sold as a four-door midsize sedan and was especially notable for its strong electric range and eligibility for the full U.S. federal plug-in vehicle tax credit when new. Production of the Clarity Plug-in Hybrid ended in 2021. It is sometimes confused with the Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, but both were Honda products using different propulsion systems.
