Which automaker launched the Fiat Panda in 1980, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro?

The story behind the answer

Fiat launched the Fiat Panda in 1980, designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro.

The Panda was conceived as a simple, affordable city car with unusually practical interior space. Giugiaro’s design used flat surfaces, a tall body and a highly adaptable cabin, allowing the car to remain compact while carrying passengers and everyday cargo.

Fiat positioned the Panda below the 127 in its range. Early versions used small two-cylinder or four-cylinder petrol engines, and the model later became available with four-wheel drive. The Panda 4x4, introduced in 1983, was particularly successful in rural and mountainous areas.

The original Panda remained in production for many years and became one of Fiat’s best-known models. It is sometimes confused with the larger Panda generations that followed, but the 1980 car established the nameplate’s central formula: low cost, small dimensions and versatile utility.
