Which author wrote the 'Slough House' series?

Mick Herron wrote the Slough House series of spy novels.

The series follows disgraced or sidelined MI5 agents—nicknamed “slow horses”—who are sent to Slough House to perform unimportant office work. Their reluctant leader is Jackson Lamb, a brilliant but abrasive Cold War veteran. The first novel, Slow Horses, was published in 2010, after Herron began writing it in 2008.

Despite its name, Slough House is not in the town of Slough. It is a fictional MI5 department in London, near the Barbican, where intelligence officers are placed after career-ending mistakes or failures. The books combine espionage, satire, workplace comedy and serious political tension.

John le Carré is a common mix-up because Herron’s novels are often discussed alongside classic British spy fiction. However, le Carré did not create Slough House; Herron’s books are a modern, darkerly comic contribution to that tradition. The series inspired Apple TV+’s Slow Horses.
