Which author wrote the 'Flavia de Luce' series?

Alan Bradley wrote the 'Flavia de Luce' series. The books feature Flavia, an exceptionally curious 11-year-old amateur detective and chemist living in the English village of Bishop's Lacey in the 1950s.

The series began with The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, published in 2009. Bradley developed Flavia after a young girl appeared unexpectedly in a different manuscript he was writing. His wife encouraged him to submit the character to the Crime Writers' Association's Debut Dagger competition, which Bradley won in 2007.

Flavia's investigations combine classic village mysteries with chemistry, poisons, family conflict, and period detail. Her home, Buckshaw, includes a personal laboratory where she conducts experiments. The series is sometimes confused with other historical mystery characters named Flavia, including Flavia Albia in Lindsey Davis's Roman mysteries, but Flavia de Luce is Bradley's creation. The series ultimately grew from an initial six-book plan to eleven novels.
