Jun Mochizuki created the Pandora Hearts manga, whose title refers to the Pandora myth.
Pandora Hearts is a Japanese fantasy manga written and illustrated by Mochizuki. Square Enix serialized it in Monthly GFantasy from 2006 to 2015, and the collected story formed 24 tankōbon volumes. Its plot follows Oz Vessalius, a young nobleman drawn into the mysterious Abyss and its supernatural contracts.
The series uses the Pandora name as part of a larger network of references to mythology, literature, and European-inspired fantasy. It is not a direct adaptation of Hesiod’s story, and its characters and setting belong to Mochizuki’s original fictional world.
An anime television adaptation aired in 2009. The manga’s creator is sometimes confused with the names of other prominent fantasy manga artists, but Jun Mochizuki is the author and illustrator credited for Pandora Hearts.
