Which author created the character Matilda?
Answer
Roald Dahl
Answer
Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl created the character Matilda.
Matilda Wormwood is the central character of Roald Dahl's 1988 children's novel 'Matilda'. She is an exceptionally intelligent, book-loving girl whose neglectful parents fail to appreciate her abilities. At school, she faces the cruel headmistress Miss Trunchbull, but finds encouragement from the kind teacher Miss Honey. Matilda's intelligence eventually develops into telekinetic powers, which she uses to help challenge the injustice around her.
Dahl published the novel through Jonathan Cape in the United Kingdom, with illustrations by Quentin Blake. The story became one of his most popular works and later inspired a 1996 film directed by Danny DeVito, a stage musical, and other adaptations.
The character can be confused with other famous children in fantasy literature, including Dorothy from L. Frank Baum's 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' or Harry Potter from J. K. Rowling's series. Matilda belongs specifically to Dahl's world, where sharp wit, reading and moral courage help a child resist irresponsible adults.
