Which Australian coach began teaching Federer when he was 10?
Answer
Peter Carter
Answer
Peter Carter
Peter Carter began teaching Federer when Federer was 10. The Australian former tennis player became a central mentor after Federer’s earlier instruction with Adolf Kacovsky at the Old Boys Tennis Club.
Carter worked with Federer from age 10 until the teenager’s transition toward the professional tour. Their training covered more than stroke production: Carter helped refine Federer’s technique and taught him strategy and the psychological aspects of high-level competition. Federer later credited Carter with shaping his technique and composure.
The relationship was especially important because Carter spent years helping Federer turn exceptional natural ability into a complete game. Federer did not select Carter as his full-time traveling coach when he moved onto the ATP Tour; he instead worked with Peter Lundgren from 1999 through 2003. Another common confusion is Tony Roche, who coached Federer much later, and Ivan Ljubičić, who joined Federer’s team near the end of his career.
