Michael Jackson won eight Grammy Awards at the 1984 ceremony, the most won by an artist at a single Grammy ceremony.
Jackson’s record-setting night followed the enormous success of his album Thriller. The album produced major singles including “Billie Jean,” “Beat It,” and “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” and became one of the best-selling albums in music history.
At the 26th Annual Grammy Awards, Jackson won Album of the Year and Record of the Year, among other honors. Quincy Jones won Producer of the Year for his work on the album, making the evening especially important for the Thriller team.
