Paul Simon won Album of the Year at the 1976 Grammy Awards for Still Crazy After All These Years.
The album was Simon’s fourth solo studio release and followed the breakup of Simon & Garfunkel. It combined his concise songwriting with jazz, pop, soul, and Brazilian influences. Songs such as “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover” and “Gone at Last” helped make the album a major commercial success.
Simon also won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the title song. At the same ceremony, “Still Crazy After All These Years” competed in a strong field that included albums by Stevie Wonder and Bob Dylan.
The victory is sometimes mistaken for a Simon & Garfunkel award because of Simon’s earlier fame in that duo. However, Still Crazy After All These Years was a solo album, and its Grammy recognized Simon’s individual recording career after the partnership had ended.
