Lizzo won Record of the Year at the 2023 Grammy Awards for “About Damn Time.”
“About Damn Time” was released in April 2022 as the lead single from Lizzo’s album Special. The song became a major international hit, driven by its upbeat disco-influenced production, prominent flute parts, and celebratory lyrics. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
At the 65th Grammy Awards, the record won Record of the Year, one of the ceremony’s four General Field awards. Lizzo performed the song during the broadcast and also won Record of the Year’s sister category, Best Pop Solo Performance, for the same recording.
Record of the Year is awarded for the recorded performance and production of a single track. It differs from Song of the Year, which honors the songwriters for the composition itself.
