Record of the Year honors the overall recorded performance and production of a song, while Song of the Year recognizes songwriting. Because Bruno Mars sings the lead vocal, some listeners remember him as the sole winner, but the Grammy credit was awarded to Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars as the track’s principal performers, with additional credited contributors.
“Uptown Funk” was released in 2014 and became a major global hit. Its sound drew on funk, soul, and boogie traditions, while its video and live performances emphasized an energetic retro style. The 58th Grammy Awards were held in Los Angeles on February 15, 2016.
