Which artist won Best Country Solo Performance at the 2016 Grammys?

Chris Stapleton won Best Country Solo Performance at the 2016 Grammys for “Traveller.” The award recognized his solo recording from the album of the same name, which became one of the defining country releases of the mid-2010s.

The 58th Annual Grammy Awards honored recordings released during the 2014–2015 eligibility period. Stapleton’s win was part of a breakthrough night: he also won Best Country Album for Traveller and Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Little Big Town on “Girl Crush.”

A common mix-up is confusing the 2016 award year with the year Traveller was released. The album came out in 2015, but the Grammys presented the award in February 2016. Another likely confusion is Carrie Underwood, who was nominated for “Little Toy Guns” but did not win. The category covers solo country performances, whether vocal or instrumental, and is separate from Best Country Song, which honors songwriting.
