Which artist released the 1997 album Baduizm?
Answer
Erykah Badu
Answer
Erykah Badu
Erykah Badu released the 1997 album Baduizm.
Baduizm is Badu’s debut studio album, released on February 11, 1997, through Kedar and Universal Records. It helped establish her distinctive blend of R&B, jazz, hip-hop, and what became known as neo-soul, pairing relaxed grooves with highly individual phrasing and spiritual, introspective writing.
The album grew out of Badu’s early development as a performer and songwriter. After leaving university to pursue music, she toured with her cousin Robert “Free” Bradford and recorded a demo that attracted label executive Kedar Massenburg. Its songs included the singles “On & On,” “Next Lifetime,” and “Otherside of the Game.”
Baduizm is sometimes confused with Badu’s live album Live, which followed later in 1997. Baduizm was the studio debut, and its success led to major recognition: at the 1998 Grammy Awards, it won Best R&B Album, while “On & On” won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.
