Which artist made Fine Wind, Clear Morning, the print also called Red Fuji?

Katsushika Hokusai made *Fine Wind, Clear Morning*, the ukiyo-e print also known as *Red Fuji*.

The image belongs to Hokusai’s celebrated *Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji* series, published around 1830–1832. Its Japanese title, *Gaifū kaisei*, is often translated as “South Wind, Clear Sky.” The print shows Mount Fuji glowing red in the early-autumn sunlight, beneath a broad blue sky.

“Red Fuji” refers to the mountain’s color and is not the artist’s name or the formal English title. Hokusai’s other famous print from the same series, *The Great Wave off Kanagawa*, is sometimes confused with it because both feature Mount Fuji and are among his best-known works.

Hokusai lived from 1760 to 1849 and worked in multiple genres, but his landscape prints became especially influential in Europe.
