Which artist created the 1929 painting The Accommodations of Desire?

The story behind the answer

Salvador Dalí created the 1929 painting The Accommodations of Desire.

The painting is an early example of Dalí’s mature Surrealist imagery. It contains a pale, dreamlike landscape and a group of irregular, stone-like forms that Dalí associated with his fears and desires. The title points toward the movement’s interest in unconscious impulses rather than rational storytelling.

Dalí’s relationship with Gala, whom he met in 1929, became central to his personal and artistic life. The same year also brought major developments in his work, including his collaboration with Luis Buñuel on Un Chien Andalou. The Accommodations of Desire is sometimes confused with other Dalí works because he repeatedly used rocks, landscapes, and bodily transformations. Its title should also be distinguished from The Persistence of Memory, painted two years later in 1931.
