Beyoncé became the first Black woman to win Best Country Album at the 2025 Grammys.
She won the award for Cowboy Carter, her eighth studio album. The project explored country, Americana, blues, and roots music while also connecting those traditions to Beyoncé’s broader pop and R&B career.
The victory was historically notable because it represented the first Best Country Album win by a Black woman. Beyoncé had previously worked across many genres, but Cowboy Carter placed her directly in the country album field. The album also won Album of the Year at the same ceremony.
The album’s title references Beyoncé’s family name and the cultural history surrounding Black participation in country and Western music. Its release prompted renewed discussion about genre boundaries, recognition, and the historical contributions of Black musicians.
