Answer
A. M. Cassandre
Answer
A. M. Cassandre
A. M. Cassandre is the Art Deco artist known for graphic posters of trains and ships.
Born Adolphe Jean-Marie Mouron in 1901, Cassandre became one of the leading French commercial poster designers of the 1920s and 1930s. He used bold geometry, dramatic perspective, simplified forms, and powerful lettering to make travel seem fast, modern, and monumental.
His railway posters included Nord Express and Étoile du Nord, while other designs promoted ocean travel and luxury liners. Rather than merely illustrating a vehicle, Cassandre often turned a locomotive or ship into a near-abstract symbol of speed and technological progress. His work helped define the visual language of modern advertising.
Cassandre was also a type designer, associated with typefaces including Bifur and Peignot. He is sometimes confused with Alphonse Mucha, Jules Chéret, or Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, but those artists belong to different poster traditions and generations. Cassandre’s sharply engineered compositions are especially characteristic of Art Deco.
