Which Apollo Mission was launched on November 14, 1969?

The story behind the answer

Apollo 12 was launched on November 14, 1969.

NASA launched Apollo 12 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 11:22 a.m. Eastern Time. It was the sixth crewed Apollo flight and the second mission to land astronauts on the Moon, following Apollo 11’s historic landing four months earlier.

The launch took place during heavy rain and cloudy weather, and the Saturn V rocket was struck by lightning twice shortly after liftoff. The strikes temporarily affected spacecraft instrumentation, but flight controllers restored the necessary systems and the mission continued safely. Commander Charles “Pete” Conrad, Command Module Pilot Richard Gordon, and Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean made up the crew.

Apollo 12 landed on November 19 in the Ocean of Storms, near the Surveyor 3 spacecraft, allowing astronauts to retrieve parts for scientific study. Conrad and Bean conducted more than 31 hours of lunar-surface activity. The mission returned to Earth on November 24, 1969, and demonstrated that lunar landings could be performed with greater precision than Apollo 11’s pioneering flight.
