Which Apollo mission first carried a lunar roving vehicle to the Moon’s surface?

The story behind the answer

Apollo 15 was the first Apollo mission to carry a lunar roving vehicle to the Moon’s surface.

The mission launched on July 26, 1971, with astronauts David Scott, Alfred Worden, and James Irwin. Scott and Irwin landed in the Hadley–Apennine region on July 30, while Worden remained in lunar orbit in the Endeavour command module.

The battery-powered Lunar Roving Vehicle allowed Scott and Irwin to travel much farther from the lunar module than earlier crews could walk. They used it during three moonwalks to explore the area, collect rocks, and investigate the Hadley Rille and nearby mountains.

Apollo 15 is sometimes confused with Apollo 16, which also used a lunar rover, but Apollo 16 flew later, in 1972. Apollo 17 was the final mission to use one, and its rover carried astronaut Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan across the Taurus–Littrow valley.
