OLM produced the Pokémon television anime.
The Japanese series premiered on TV Tokyo on April 1, 1997, adapting characters, creatures, and concepts from the Pokémon video games. OLM handled the animation production, while TV Tokyo and other partners were involved in broadcasting and production arrangements.
The original television story followed Ash Ketchum and Pikachu as they traveled through different regions, met rivals and friends, and competed in Pokémon battles. The anime helped introduce Pokémon to audiences who had never played the Game Boy games.
OLM remained closely associated with the franchise for decades, although production teams and animation methods changed over time. Early episodes used traditional cel animation; later episodes moved to digital animation. The studio should not be confused with the game's developer, Game Freak.
