Which ancient wonder was located at Olympia and built to honor Zeus?

The story behind the answer

The Statue of Zeus at Olympia was the ancient wonder located at Olympia and built to honor Zeus.

The colossal seated statue stood inside the Temple of Zeus at Olympia in the Greek region of Elis. The sculptor Phidias created it around 435 BCE, and ancient writers described it as approximately 12 metres tall. Its visible surfaces used materials including gold and ivory over a supporting structure, making it one of the most celebrated works of Classical Greek art.

Zeus held a figure of Nike, the goddess of victory, in one hand and a scepter in the other. The throne was richly decorated with mythological and divine scenes. The statue’s scale and luxury were intended to express the power of Zeus and the importance of Olympia, the sanctuary where the ancient Olympic Games were held.

The statue was listed among the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Its exact fate is uncertain, but it was probably removed or damaged after the sanctuary declined. Ancient sources connect its later history with Constantinople, while the temple itself was destroyed by earthquakes and other disasters.
