Which ancient wonder was built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu?
Answer
Great Pyramid of Giza
Answer
Great Pyramid of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza was built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khufu. It stands on Egypt’s Giza Plateau and is the largest and oldest of the three major pyramids at the site.
Construction took place during Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty, probably in the twenty-sixth century BCE. The pyramid originally reached about 146.6 metres, although weathering and the loss of its outer casing reduced its present height. It was built from millions of stone blocks, including large granite elements transported from southern Egypt.
The Great Pyramid was the tallest human-made structure in the world for more than 3,800 years. It is the only surviving member of the traditional Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Khafre’s nearby pyramid can look taller because it sits on higher ground, but Khufu’s pyramid is the largest.
