Which ancient wonder stood in Alexandria, Egypt, according to historical accounts?

The story behind the answer

The Lighthouse of Alexandria stood in Alexandria, Egypt, according to historical accounts.

Also called the Pharos of Alexandria, the lighthouse was built on the island of Pharos during the reigns of Ptolemy I and Ptolemy II, probably in the third century BCE. Ancient writers describe it as a monumental tower that helped guide ships into Alexandria’s harbour.

Its exact height is uncertain, but later estimates commonly place it somewhere between about 100 and 120 metres. Earthquakes damaged the structure over several centuries, and its remaining stones were eventually reused in the Citadel of Qaitbay. Unlike some other ancient wonders, the lighthouse’s existence is supported by literary descriptions and archaeological evidence.
