Which ancient monument is the oldest surviving Wonder of the Ancient World?

The story behind the answer

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest surviving Wonder of the Ancient World.

Built in Egypt during the reign of Pharaoh Khufu, the Great Pyramid was completed around 2560 BC. It originally stood about 146.6 metres high and remained the tallest human-made structure in the world for roughly 3,800 years.

The monument is the largest of the three major pyramids at Giza. It was constructed as a royal tomb from millions of stone blocks, most of them limestone, with granite used in important internal chambers. Its original smooth outer casing has mostly disappeared.

The other six traditional wonders were located around the eastern Mediterranean and ancient Near East, but they were destroyed by earthquakes, fire, warfare or decay. The Great Pyramid is the only one still substantially standing, although its summit is lower today because the casing and top stones are gone.
