Which ancient Mayan city in Mexico is home to the Pyramid of the Magician?

The story behind the answer

The ancient Mayan city in Mexico that is home to the Pyramid of the Magician is Uxmal.

Uxmal lies in the Puuc region of Mexico’s western Yucatán Peninsula and was one of the major cities of Maya civilization. The pyramid, also called the Pyramid of the Dwarf or Adivino, dominates the archaeological complex and is unusual for its rounded, elliptical sides rather than the more common rectangular plan.

Construction began around the sixth century and continued in stages for several centuries. The structure’s popular name comes from Yucatec Maya folklore about a magically gifted dwarf who built the pyramid during a contest with Uxmal’s ruler. That legend is cultural tradition, not the archaeological explanation for the building’s construction.

Uxmal is sometimes confused with Chichén Itzá or Palenque, other famous Maya sites in Mexico. However, the Pyramid of the Magician is Uxmal’s signature monument. The city’s preserved architecture helped earn the Pre-Hispanic Town of Uxmal UNESCO World Heritage status in 1996.
