Answer
Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve
Answer
Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve
The American television special hosted by Dick Clark for decades is Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
The program began as Three Dog Night’s New Year’s Eve Rockin’ Eve in 1972, with Dick Clark hosting from Times Square. It was renamed Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve the following year and became a major annual music and countdown broadcast on ABC.
Clark hosted the special for many years and remained connected with it after a stroke in 2004. Ryan Seacrest became the principal host in the 2005 broadcast, and the program later adopted the title Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.
The television special is related to, but not identical with, the physical Times Square ball drop. It includes musical performances, correspondents, and coverage from other locations, while the ball drop is the midnight centerpiece in New York. The title is also distinct from Clark’s earlier program American Bandstand.
