The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, is home to the largest collection of Salvador Dalí’s works outside Europe.
The museum houses the collection assembled by Reynolds and Eleanor Morse, American collectors who began acquiring Dalí’s work in the 1940s. Their holdings grew into one of the most important private collections devoted to the artist.
The current museum building opened in 2011 on St. Petersburg’s waterfront. Its design includes a large glass geodesic structure known as the “Enigma,” which surrounds the building and contrasts with the massive concrete walls protecting the collection.
The museum is sometimes confused with the Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres, Spain. Figueres was Dalí’s own museum and contains important works connected with his life, while the Florida institution is especially known for the extensive Morse collection.
