Which American car manufacturer produced the Pacer?

The American car manufacturer that produced the Pacer was American Motors Corporation (AMC).

AMC introduced the Pacer in 1975 as an unusually wide, compact car designed to offer the interior comfort of a larger vehicle in a smaller package. Its distinctive rounded shape, large glass area, and asymmetrical doors— with a longer passenger-side door—made it one of the most recognizable American cars of the 1970s.

The Pacer was initially conceived around a fuel-efficient Wankel rotary engine being developed with General Motors. When GM abandoned that engine program during the 1970s energy crisis, AMC adapted its own inline-six engines and later offered a V8. That history can cause confusion with GM, but GM never manufactured the Pacer.

Production ended in December 1979, although the final model year was 1980. Roughly 280,000 Pacers were built. The model is now remembered as an icon of 1970s automotive design and later gained renewed visibility through appearances in popular culture.
