Which Amazon e-reader line was first released in 2007?

The story behind the answer

Amazon’s Kindle e-reader line was first released in 2007.

Amazon launched the first Kindle on November 19, 2007. The device was designed to let readers purchase and download digital books through Amazon’s wireless Whispernet service, linking the hardware directly to the Kindle Store. Its E Ink display was intended to resemble printed paper while using less power than conventional screens.

The original Kindle cost $399 and had a six-inch display with 600-by-800-pixel resolution. Although later Kindle models became slimmer, faster, and more affordable, the Kindle name continued as the umbrella brand for Amazon’s dedicated e-readers. Amazon’s Fire line, Echo speakers, and Ring security products belong to different product categories and are not e-reader families.
