Which Allied declaration did Japan accept in Hirohito's 1945 surrender announcement?

The story behind the answer

Japan accepted the Potsdam Declaration in Hirohito's 1945 surrender announcement.

The declaration was issued on July 26, 1945, by the United States, the United Kingdom, and China. It set out Allied terms for Japan's surrender and warned that refusal would bring “prompt and utter destruction.” The Soviet Union was not yet a signatory when the declaration was released.

Its terms called for the disarmament of Japanese forces, the removal of militarist influence, the punishment of war criminals, and the establishment of democratic tendencies. It also stated that Japanese sovereignty would be limited to the main home islands and other islands designated by the Allies.

Japan's government debated the declaration after the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the Soviet declaration of war. Hirohito announced acceptance on August 15. The Instrument of Surrender later made acceptance of the Potsdam terms part of the formal capitulation.
