Air India operated the all-women Delhi-to-San Francisco flight for International Women’s Day 2016.
Ahead of International Women’s Day, Air India operated a Delhi–San Francisco service in which the entire flight operation was handled by women. The airline presented it as the world’s longest non-stop flight operated entirely by women, making the event both a publicity milestone and a celebration of women’s participation in aviation.
The route covered about 14,500 kilometers and took roughly 17 hours. “All-women flight” referred to the operational team, not merely the passengers: women were involved in the cockpit and other flight-operation roles. The event highlighted a traditionally male-dominated sector while showcasing Air India, India’s national carrier.
The flight is sometimes confused with women-only passenger flights or with later promotional flights by other airlines. Its distinctive feature was the combination of the Delhi–San Francisco route, the 2016 International Women’s Day timing, and the claim that the entire flight operation was handled by women.
