Air France became the first airline to operate the Boeing 777-300ER commercially in 2004. The extended-range version is a long-haul twin-engine wide-body aircraft designed to carry many passengers over intercontinental distances.
The 777-300ER combines the longer fuselage of the 777-300 with more powerful engines, increased fuel capacity and strengthened structures. Its development helped airlines replace older four-engine aircraft on routes where a large twin-engine jet could provide lower operating costs.
Air France was the launch operator for the variant, while General Electric’s GE90-115B became its exclusive engine. The type went on to become one of Boeing’s most successful long-haul models, with major operators including Emirates, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines.
