Which AI search company was founded in 2022 by Aravind Srinivas and others?

The AI search company founded in 2022 by Aravind Srinivas and others is Perplexity AI.

Perplexity AI, Inc. was founded in August 2022 by Aravind Srinivas, Denis Yarats, Johnny Ho, and Andy Konwinski. The founders brought experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and backend systems. Rather than returning only a ranked list of links, Perplexity’s product was designed to answer questions conversationally by combining language models with web search and citing sources.

Its main search engine launched on December 7, 2022. That timing explains a frequent confusion: the company was founded in 2022, but its public search product arrived later the same year. Perplexity is also sometimes described as an “answer engine,” though it remains a search product because it retrieves current web information and presents supporting references. Its name is unrelated to the older statistical and linguistic meaning of perplexity.
