Which African safari animal has the largest ears of any living land animal?

The story behind the answer

The African elephant has the largest ears of any living land animal.

Its enormous ears are shaped somewhat like the African continent, a feature that helps distinguish it from the Asian elephant, whose ears are generally smaller and more rounded. African elephants also have larger bodies and two finger-like projections at the tips of their trunks.

The ears are important for cooling. Their thin skin contains an extensive network of blood vessels; as blood circulates through the ears, heat can be released into the surrounding air. Elephants also flap their ears to increase airflow and may use them in displays of alertness or aggression.

Both African savanna elephants and African forest elephants belong to the African elephant group, although they differ in habitat, size, and physical details. The savanna elephant is the larger species commonly seen on open safari landscapes.
