Which African country contains Mount Kilimanjaro, the continent's highest mountain at 5,895 metres?

The story behind the answer

Tanzania contains Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain at 5,895 metres.

Kilimanjaro is a dormant volcanic massif in northeastern Tanzania, near the border with Kenya. It has three volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Uhuru Peak, on Kibo's summit, is the mountain's highest point.

The mountain rises dramatically from surrounding plains and supports several ecological zones, including cultivated foothills, rainforest, heath, alpine desert, and an ice-covered summit zone. Climbers can reach the summit without technical rock-climbing equipment, but altitude remains a serious danger.

Kilimanjaro's glaciers have shrunk substantially since the early twentieth century. Its name and the meanings of its components are debated, while the mountain's location is not: the summit is entirely within Tanzania, despite the nearby international border and the mountain's frequent association with Kenya.
