Which affordable automobile did Ford begin mass-producing in 1908?
Answer
The Model T
Answer
The Model T
The affordable automobile Ford began mass-producing in 1908 was the Model T. Introduced by the Ford Motor Company, it became one of the earliest cars to make personal automobile ownership practical for large numbers of middle-class Americans.
The first production Model T was built in August 1908 at Ford’s Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit, and production began that autumn. Ford later refined its manufacturing system at the Highland Park plant, where moving assembly-line methods and interchangeable parts dramatically reduced production time and cost.
The Model T was not literally the first mass-produced automobile; Ransom E. Olds’s Oldsmobile Curved Dash preceded it. Ford’s major achievement was combining large-scale production, standardization, and aggressive cost reduction. More than 15 million Model Ts were produced before the model was discontinued in 1927.
The Model A was a different Ford model that followed the Model T in 1927. The Thunderbird and Mustang were much later Ford cars, introduced in 1954 and 1964 respectively, so neither belongs to the 1908 story.
