Which actress plays Moira in The Handmaid's Tale TV series?

Samira Wiley plays Moira Strand in The Handmaid’s Tale television series. Moira is June Osborne’s closest friend from before Gilead and remains one of the story’s most determined figures of resistance.

Wiley’s performance follows Moira through several stages of captivity and escape. She meets June at the Red Center, escapes before being assigned to a Commander’s household, is recaptured, and is forced to work at Jezebel’s under the name Ruby. Her reunion with June helps restore both women’s hope and resolve.

Samira Wiley was already widely known for playing Poussey Washington on Orange Is the New Black. Her casting brought strong recognition to the role, while Moira’s character provided an important perspective distinct from June’s experience as a Handmaid.

A common mix-up is confusing Moira’s actor with Elisabeth Moss, who plays June/Offred, or with Alexis Bledel, who plays Emily. Madeline Brewer plays Janine, another Handmaid whose storyline intersects with Moira’s.
