Which actress played the female lead in 'Rear Window'?

Grace Kelly played the female lead, Lisa Fremont, in Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window.” She stars opposite James Stewart, whose character, photographer L. B. “Jeff” Jefferies, watches neighbors from his Greenwich Village apartment while recovering from a broken leg.

Lisa is initially presented as Jefferies’s glamorous socialite girlfriend, but she becomes an active investigator rather than remaining a passive romantic figure. Her decision to enter the suspected murderer Lars Thorwald’s apartment creates one of the film’s most suspenseful sequences.

“Rear Window” was released in 1954 and was Kelly’s second film with Hitchcock, following “Dial M for Murder.” She later made “To Catch a Thief” with him in 1955. Tippi Hedren and Janet Leigh also appeared in Hitchcock films, while Kim Novak starred in “Vertigo”; none played the female lead in “Rear Window.”
