Which actress played Mattie Ross in the 2010 film 'True Grit'?

Hailee Steinfeld played Mattie Ross in the 2010 film 'True Grit.' The Coen brothers' Western follows the determined 14-year-old as she hires U.S. Marshal Rooster Cogburn to pursue Tom Chaney, the outlaw who murdered her father.

Steinfeld was only 13 when she was cast, chosen from a reported pool of about 15,000 applicants. The role marked her theatrical film debut and made her one of the film's central performances alongside Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin.

This version was adapted from Charles Portis's 1968 novel and was intended to follow the book more closely than the 1969 John Wayne adaptation. A common mix-up is confusing Steinfeld with Kim Darby, who played Mattie in the earlier film. Steinfeld received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the role.
