Which actress played Lady Sybil Crawley?

Lady Sybil Crawley was played by English actress Jessica Brown Findlay. Sybil is the youngest daughter of Robert and Cora Crawley and is portrayed as the most politically progressive of the three Crawley sisters.

Within the series, Sybil supports women’s rights, works as an auxiliary nurse during the First World War and falls in love with Tom Branson, Downton’s Irish chauffeur. Their relationship crosses both class and political boundaries. They eventually marry and have a daughter, Sybbie.

Brown Findlay played Sybil from the first series through the beginning of the third. Sybil dies after giving birth, from eclampsia, a complication of pregnancy rather than the Spanish flu storyline seen earlier in the series. The actress later appeared in productions including Harlots, Brave New World and the film Winter’s Tale. Lily James, Laura Carmichael and Michelle Dockery played other prominent women in Downton Abbey, which makes the casting question easy to mix up.
