Which actress played Beverly Hofstadter?

Christine Baranski played Beverly Hofstadter.

Baranski portrayed Dr. Beverly Hofstadter, Leonard’s highly accomplished but emotionally distant mother, on The Big Bang Theory. Beverly is a psychiatrist and neuroscientist whose clinical way of analyzing her son often makes Leonard uncomfortable. Her intellect and reserved personality also create an especially memorable contrast with the more openly chaotic members of the main cast.

Baranski first appeared as Beverly in the season-two episode “The Maternal Capacitance.” The character proved popular enough to return repeatedly, including in “The Maternal Congruence,” the Christmas episode in season three. Across the series, Baranski appeared in 16 episodes and received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations for the recurring role.

The actress is sometimes confused with Laurie Metcalf, who played Sheldon’s mother, Mary Cooper. Jane Kaczmarek and Kathy Bates are also recognizable television actresses, but neither played Beverly Hofstadter. Baranski is additionally known for Diane Lockhart in The Good Wife and The Good Fight, as well as Agnes van Rhijn in The Gilded Age.
