Which actor took the viral Oscar selfie posted to Ellen DeGeneres's Twitter account?

Bradley Cooper took the viral Oscar selfie posted to Ellen DeGeneres’s Twitter account.

The photograph was taken during the 86th Academy Awards on March 2, 2014, while DeGeneres was hosting the ceremony. Cooper held the phone and captured a crowded image featuring DeGeneres, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jared Leto, Lupita Nyong’o and other stars.

DeGeneres posted the picture immediately to her Twitter account and encouraged viewers to help make it the most retweeted image ever. It passed two million retweets before the broadcast ended and briefly held Twitter’s retweet record. The sudden activity also contributed to a short Twitter outage, adding another connection to the platform’s history.

The selfie was taken with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 because Samsung was a major Oscars advertiser. A common mix-up is crediting DeGeneres because she arranged the group and posted the image. She was the poster and host, but Cooper was the person who pressed the shutter.
