Which actor portrays Dr. Gregory House in the television series House M.D.?

Hugh Laurie portrays Dr. Gregory House in the television series House M.D.

Laurie is an English actor, musician, and writer who became internationally recognized for playing the brilliant but abrasive diagnostician. House is the central character of the series, leading a team that investigates unusual medical cases at the fictional Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey.

The role was a major change from Laurie’s earlier British comedy work, including appearances in A Bit of Fry & Laurie and Blackadder. He auditioned for House while filming elsewhere and initially used an American accent that helped convince creator David Shore that he was right for the part.

Laurie won two Golden Globe Awards for House and received multiple Emmy nominations. A common mix-up is assuming House’s actor is American; Laurie was born in Oxford, England. Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps, and Lisa Edelstein played other major characters.
