Lisa Edelstein portrayed Dr. Lisa Cuddy in House M.D.

Cuddy is the dean of medicine and hospital administrator at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. She supervises House, manages his frequent conflicts with hospital policy, and often balances financial, legal, and medical concerns. Her authority makes her one of the few characters able to challenge House institutionally.

Edelstein joined the main cast from the beginning of the series. Her performance combined Cuddy’s administrative competence with the character’s complicated professional and personal relationship with House. Cuddy and House’s relationship developed over several seasons, but their romance did not define Cuddy’s entire role: she remains a physician and senior hospital leader.

Lisa Edelstein had worked in television before House M.D., with appearances in programs such as The West Wing and Ally McBeal. She left the regular cast after the show’s seventh season.
