Which actor plays Jake Sully in Avatar?

Sam Worthington plays Jake Sully in Avatar.

Jake is a former U.S. Marine who enters the Avatar Program after his twin brother, Tommy, dies. Because Jake shares Tommy’s DNA, he can operate the genetically engineered Na’vi body created for his brother. The role makes him the audience’s guide to Pandora, the moon where humans seek valuable unobtanium and encounter the Na’vi people.

Worthington was not yet a major international star when he was cast. James Cameron considered several better-known actors, including Matt Damon, whose schedule conflicted with the production, before choosing Worthington for the character’s physicality and emotional directness. Worthington returned as Jake in Avatar: The Way of Water and later franchise installments.

A common mix-up is confusing Jake with Neytiri, his Na’vi guide and eventual partner, who is played by Zoe Saldana. Jake’s blue body is a remotely operated avatar, while his human identity remains Jake Sully.
