Which actor plays Gregory House in House M.D.?

Hugh Laurie plays Gregory House in House M.D., the series’ central diagnostic physician.

Laurie is an English actor who had already become well known in Britain through comedy, including A Bit of Fry & Laurie and Jeeves and Wooster. His casting as House required him to perform an American accent for the role. The character’s physical disability, sarcasm, and unconventional methods made the performance very different from Laurie’s earlier comic work.

Laurie received major award recognition for the part. He won two Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor in a Television Series—Drama and received multiple Primetime Emmy nominations. House made him internationally recognizable as a dramatic television lead.

A common mix-up is identifying Robert Sean Leonard as House’s actor; Leonard played Dr. James Wilson instead. Omar Epps played Eric Foreman, while Jesse Spencer played Robert Chase.
