Which actor played the mailman Newman on "Seinfeld"?
Answer
Wayne Knight
Answer
Wayne Knight
Wayne Knight played Newman, the mailman and Jerry Seinfeld's nemesis on "Seinfeld." Knight portrayed the recurring character from his first on-screen appearance in 1992 through the show's finale in 1998.
Newman is a tenant in Jerry's apartment building and works for the United States Postal Service. Although he takes pride in the power of the postal system, he is often portrayed as a lazy or dishonest carrier who hides mail, abuses sick days, and uses his job for personal revenge. Jerry's contemptuous greeting, "Hello, Newman," became one of the show's best-known catchphrases.
There is one early-credit detail that can cause confusion. In "The Revenge," Newman's voice was originally provided by series co-creator Larry David, while the character was not seen on screen. Wayne Knight later dubbed those lines for syndication broadcasts, and he became the definitive actor associated with Newman.
Knight was also known for playing Dennis Nedry in "Jurassic Park," but that role has no connection to Newman's place in the "Seinfeld" cast.
